What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a system of medicine primarily concerned with the structure and function of the body i.e. the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues. It is a natural complementary therapy, which seeks to overcome the wide range of diseases which can result from disturbances to the body’s framework and moving parts.

Structural Osteopathy was developed in the 1870s by Dr Andrew Taylor Still, a physician who discovered the benefits of manipulation in a whole range of injuries and ailments. His pioneering work was further developed by Dr William Garner Sutherland who identified that restricted motion between component parts of the skull also influences the rest of the body, outlining fundamental principles of Cranial Osteopathy.
